At the doctor's and at the pharmacy

At the doctor's and at the pharmacy

At a clinic (poliklinika) you come by appointment. At the front desk say whom you want to see: “Həkimi görmək istəyirəm”, or by name, Rəşad bəyi (a person takes the accusative ending, module 5). Office hours: “Həkim nə vaxt işləyir?” Insurance is sığorta. What hurts works as in module 6: “my head hurts” is başım ağrıyır, with “my” as an ending. How long it has hurt: the number + gündür: iki gündür, beş gündür, “for two days now, for five days now”. An allergy works like “I have a sister” (module 2): mənim allergiyam var. What you're allergic to takes the dative, like “where to”. The doctor uses siz: the commands are in the table. Advice and “don't”: için ↔ içməyin, yeyin ↔ yeməyin (module 6). At the pharmacy many medicines are sold only with a prescription (resept): “Resept lazımdır?” Common mistakes: • ×Mənim əl ağrıyır → Əlim ağrıyır. • ×iki gün (meaning “for two days now”) → iki gündür. • ×Mən allergiya var → Mənim allergiyam var.
What the doctor says

The doctor talks to the patient with siz: the ending -ın / -in / -un / -ün, after a vowel -yın / -yin / -yun / -yün (bağlayın).
