I can review the module: say hello in the right register, say who I am and who I'm not, ask “are you …?”, name the things around me, say where I'm from, and say numbers and ages — without dropping the ending in the first and second person.
What we review
What we review
• Greetings and goodbyes depend on the situation; sən to a friend, siz to someone older and to strangers; bəli / xeyr are formal, hə / yox informal. The title bəy / xanım goes after the first name and takes siz.
• “Am / is / are” is an ending: -am, -san, -dır, -ıq, -sınız, -dırlar; after a vowel, the linking y. In the third person -dır can be left out.
• “Not” is deyil + the ending; a question is -mı, joined at the very end — no inversion, no “do”.
• Bu / o, bunlar / onlar, bura / ora; kim? nə?; more than one: -lar / -lər.
• Where from: -lı; rus ≠ rusiyalı; “whereas”: isə.
• After a number and neçə, no -lar; age: … yaşım var.
The module is over: now you can introduce yourself, say who you are and where you're from, ask yes/no questions, and say numbers.
The module's two main mistakes
English has a word for “am / are” and a plural after numbers; Azerbaijani has neither.
| Wrong | Right | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Mən tələbə. | Mən tələbəyəm. | in the first and second person the ending is required |
| beş kitablar | beş kitab | after a number and neçə — no -lar |
