I can name all the days of the week, say what I do on Saturday (şənbə günü) and how often — hər gün, həmişə, bəzən, heç vaxt — and not mix up Sunday (bazar) and Monday (bazar ertəsi).
Həftə və gündəlik: days of the week and how often
Həftə və gündəlik: days of the week and how often
The week starts on Monday. bazar is Sunday, bazar ertəsi Monday, literally “after bazar”. Çərşənbə axşamı is Tuesday, not “Wednesday evening”; cümə axşamı is Thursday. Unlike English, days are written lowercase. Şənbə is said [şəmbə] (see the table).
“On Saturday” takes no ending and no preposition: şənbə günü or just şənbə.
How often: hər gün “every day”, həmişə “always”, bəzən “sometimes” — before the verb or at the start of the sentence. heç vaxt “never” needs a negative verb, unlike English “never”: “Heç vaxt gec gəlmirəm”. “When?” is nə vaxt?
First — əvvəl, then — sonra. Durmaq “to get up”, yatmaq “to sleep; to go to bed”, oyanmaq “to wake up”, yumaq “to wash”, bişirmək “to cook”.
Common mistakes:
• × “şənbədə” → şənbə günü.
• × “Heç vaxt gec gəlirəm” → Heç vaxt gec gəlmirəm.
• × “bazar” for “Monday” → bazar ertəsi.
