• ein, eine, kein, keine — and a job after sein with no article, unlike English “a teacher”: Marie ist Journalistin. Sie ist keine Ärztin.
• können and the sentence bracket: the conjugated verb second, the second verb at the very end, nicht before the infinitive: Paul kann heute nicht arbeiten.
• The stem vowel changes with du and er, sie, es, and stays normal in the other forms: Du liest die Zeitung. Er liest die Zeitung.
• aus, bei, nach with cities, countries, and companies; the set phrase am plus a day of the week (English “on”); prices in words: Am Samstag kostet das Kino acht Euro.
