Why: to describe the weather and say what it will be like tomorrow.
Weather in general takes no verb and no “it is”: Бүгін күн суық (it's cold), жылы, ыстық, салқын, ашық (clear), бұлтты (cloudy). Rain and snow “fall” with the verb жауу; wind “blows” with соғу. For what you can see right now, use the set phrases жауып тұр and соғып тұр (English “it's raining”, “it's windy”): Қазір тауда қар жауып тұр, жел соғып тұр.
The future: Kazakh has no separate form and no word for “will”. It is the present form plus a time word: ертең, бүрсігүні (the day after tomorrow), келесі аптада.
• Ертең қар жауады. — It will snow tomorrow.
• Ертең жаңбыр жаумайды, жел соқпайды.
• Сенбіде күн ыстық болады — it will be hot. Yesterday: болды.
• The question: Ертең жаңбыр жауа ма?
The stem of соғу is соқ-: соғады, but соқты, соқпайды.
Temperature: он бес градус жылы — plus fifteen; он градус суық — minus ten.
Common mistakes:
• דЕртең мен боламын бару” → Ертең барамын: no word for “will” is needed.
• דЕртең жел соғып тұр” → соғады: жауып тұр, соғып тұр are only for what is happening now.
The weather yesterday, now, and tomorrow
For tomorrow: the same form as for today, with a time word.
