I can review the whole module: I can say what is where, whose a thing is and where it is, where I'm coming from and going to, how I travel and with whom, and give directions to my home.
What we review
What we review
In this module you learned to talk about home and town. There are no new rules here — only what you've already learned.
• What's where: -ում (after -ա, -ո a յ comes before the ending: -յում, -յից, -յով, -յի) and կա / չկա; with people, մոտ.
• English “has”, “there is”, “is”: three Armenian ways. Someone has it: ունեմ; there is one somewhere: կա; a known thing is somewhere: է. Examples are in the second table.
• Whose: the owner in -ի comes first, and the thing takes the article. The nine special words: հոր, մոր, եղբոր, քրոջ, ընկերոջ, կնոջ, ամուսնու, աղջկա, տան.
• Where it is: the -ի form + վրա, տակ, մեջ, մոտ, կողքին.
• Where — where to — where from — by what: -ում · no ending · -ից · -ով. Examples are in the first table.
• With whom: հետ; by what: -ով.
• Requests: to a friend, նստիր, գնա; formally, նստեք, գնացեք.
Now you can describe your apartment, say where things are and whose they are, and explain to a guest how to get to your home.
Where — where to — where from — by what
Four questions, four forms of one word.
| Where | Where to | Where from | By what |
|---|---|---|---|
| դպրոցում | դպրոց | դպրոցից | — |
| պողոտայում | պողոտա | պողոտայից | — |
| գնացքում | գնացք | գնացքից | գնացքով |
Three ways to say “there is”, “has”, and “is”
English says “has”, “there is”, or “is”; Armenian has a different word for each.
| Form | When | Example |
|---|---|---|
| ունեմ | someone has | Ես կատու ունեմ։ |
| կա | there is somewhere | Այգում կատու կա։ |
| է | a known thing is in some place | Կատուն այգում է։ |
