← Photographic Vision: Find the Shot Before You Press the Button
Lesson
Lesson 8. Scan the whole rectangle
Look beyond the face
A beginner looks at the face in the frame. An experienced photographer scans the whole rectangle in a split second: first the main subject, then the background behind it, then all four edges.
Three things spoil a shot most often: a vertical growing out of the head; a bright spot right at the edge; and a random object sticking halfway into the frame.
Next, you'll practice exactly this habit: find everything in the picture that gets in the way.
