Денсаулық: what hurts and what to do
Why: to say what hurts and to understand advice: what you need to do.
Kazakh says “my ear hurts”: the body part with the possessive ending (my, your, his) + ауырады. The verb is always in the third person.
• Құлағым ауырады. — My ear hurts.
• Көзің ауыра ма? Асхаттың аяғы ауырады.
• It doesn't hurt — ауырмайды; it hurt yesterday — ауырды.
Right now — a set phrase: Тісім ауырып тұр. Қатты — “badly, a lot” (you know қаттырақ).
Learn these forms: мұрын → мұрным, ауыз → аузым (the vowel drops out); құлақ → құлағым, аяқ → аяғым, жүрек → жүрегім, тамақ → тамағым. Тамақ means both “food” and “throat”.
Two more words, for recognizing only: мойын — neck, саусақ — finger.
“One needs to” — the dictionary form in -у + керек: Көп жүру керек. — You need to walk a lot. “No need” — керек емес.
“I need to, you need to” — add the possessive ending to the -у form: менің жазуым керек, сенің күтуің керек, сіздің сөйлеуіңіз керек.
Common mistakes:
• דМенің тіс ауырады” → Тісім ауырады.
• דМен жазу керекпін” → Менің жазуым керек: “I need to” is менің + the ending, never Мен.
