Kde pracujete? What you do and where you work

Kde pracujete? What you do and where you work

Why: to say what you do and where you work, and understand a job ad. “I work as a driver” is pracovat jako + the job in its dictionary form, with no “a”: jako úředník, jako sekretářka. The word after jako doesn't change. Or simply: Jsem + the job, with no jako: Jsem úředník. For a woman, use the feminine form: -ka (učitelka, prodavačka), -ice (dělnice), -kyně (důchodkyně). The lesson words show which ending a word takes. kadeřnice and sekretářka are usually about women; vedoucí has one form for both. If it isn't said who is meant, both forms are correct. Where you work: v / na + the “where” form: v bance, ve škole, na univerzitě. “Work” is three words: práce (work: the job and the place), zaměstnání (employment, as on a form), povolání (occupation). Common mistakes: • דPracuju jako jeden úředník” → Pracuju jako úředník. • דJana je dělník” → about a woman: Jana je dělnice. • דPracuju v banka” → v bance.
Jobs: he and she

Models of three endings; the feminine forms of the lesson's jobs are in the lesson words.
