← Photographic Vision: Find the Shot Before You Press the Button
Lesson
Lesson 1. Two almost identical shots
The shot is decided before you press the button
One step changes the photo
Most of the time a good photo happens not because it was edited afterward, but because the photographer stood a foot and a half to one side.
Throughout the course we'll use the same technique: look at two similar shots, find the one difference, and put it into words. Naming the difference matters more than sensing it — once you've named it, you'll spot it in the viewfinder on your own.
In this lesson there is exactly one difference: the photographer took a step to the right. The model, the light, and the time of day stayed the same.
