Инверсия используется и после выражений с only:
• Only then did I understand the truth.
• Only after the meeting did she relax.
Конструкция No sooner had … than … описывает мгновенную последовательность; обратите внимание, что здесь идёт than, а не when: No sooner had we arrived than the show began.
Not until ведёт себя как only-группа: инверсия идёт в ГЛАВНОЙ части. Так же и Only if.
• Not until the second round did the negotiations move forward.
• Only if the client signs today will we hold the price.
Эмфатическая инверсия с so и such выносит характеристику вперёд:
• So beautiful was the view that we stayed for hours.
• Such was his anger that he left the room.
Все эти модели придают речи выразительность и используются в основном на письме.
Так неправильно:
• NOT No sooner had we left when the storm started — верно No sooner had we left than the storm started: после no sooner идёт than.
• NOT Only then she understood — верно Only then did she understand: после фронтированного only-выражения нужна инверсия.
• NOT So the view was beautiful that we stayed — верно So beautiful was the view that we stayed: прилагательное выносится перед was.

Только у only-группы и not until инверсия может уехать во ВТОРУЮ половину — там, где стоит результат.
