Why: to say on which days and how often you do things.
Unlike English, Kazakh writes the days of the week with a small letter. “On Monday” has two forms: дүйсенбіде or дүйсенбі күні. Questions: қашан? “when?”, қай күні? “on what day?”. Бүгін қай күн? — Бүгін — жұма.
Бүгін “today”, ертең “tomorrow”. Kazakh has no word for “will”: the same verb form is used, and ертең shows that it's tomorrow: Ертең жұмыс істеймін “I'm working tomorrow”.
Әр — “every”: әр күні, әр сенбіде.
How often: үнемі “always” → жиі “often” → кейде “sometimes” → сирек “rarely” → ешқашан “never”. Unlike English “never”, ешқашан needs a negative verb: Жексенбіде ешқашан жұмыс істемеймін.
Watch out: күн is both “day” and “sun”; күнде is “every day”.
Common mistakes:
• ×Мен ешқашан жұмыс істеймін → Мен ешқашан жұмыс істемеймін;
• ×да дүйсенбі → дүйсенбіде.
