What for: to give your age and your phone number, and to say how many.
The numbers from zero to ten and the tens are in the tables. The rest follow a rule:
• 11–19: տասն + the number, as one word: տասնմեկ, տասներկու, տասնչորս;
• 21–99: the ten + the number, also one word: քսանմեկ, երեսունվեց;
• ինը and տասը also appear as ինն, տասն: they are the same words.
Unlike English, the noun after a number and after քանի՞ (“how many”) stays singular, as after “one”: երկու մատիտ, հինգ եղբայր, քանի՞ քույր.
Age: the number + տարեկան + the linking verb. English can stop at “I'm forty”; Armenian needs տարեկան: Քանի՞ տարեկան եք։ — Ես քառասուն տարեկան եմ։ On a form, the “age” field is Տարիք.
A phone number is said one digit at a time: զրո, չորս, մեկ…
Common mistakes:
• NOT “երկու գրքեր” → երկու գիրք.
• NOT “երեսուն վեց” → երեսունվեց (one word).
• NOT “Ես երեսուն տարեկան” → Ես երեսուն տարեկան եմ (no sentence without the linking verb).
