Greetings and choosing tu or Lei: buongiorno, buonasera, buonanotte, salve; ciao and arrivederci; tu or Lei by the situation and by first or last name. Introductions: the four set phrases with chiamarsi and spelling out a name — Come si scrive?, A come Ancona, doppia. Essere: sono, sei, è, siamo, siete, sono; nationalities; è is a form of essere (“is”), e is “and”: Luca è italiano e Martina è russa. Numbers up to a hundred and how they're built: the tens, ventuno, ventotto, trentatré; phone numbers are read digit by digit. Avere with age and states: ho, hai, ha, abbiamo, avete, hanno; Ho trent'anni, Ho fame, Ho fretta.
