Lesson 6. Rejalar: -moqchi — “want to, be going to”

I can talk about plans: what I want to and am going to do, what I'm not going to do — and ask the person I'm talking to about their plans.

Plans: “I want to” and “I'm going to”

Plans: “I want to” and “I'm going to”

Why: to say what you want to do or are going to do. Time words: ertaga, kelasi hafta (next week), tez orada (soon), keyinroq (later). How: the verb stem + -moqchi + a personal ending of the first set, the same as in talabaman (“I'm a student”): ketmoqchiman, ketmoqchisan, ketmoqchisiz, ketmoqchimiz. In the third person there is no ending: U ketmoqchi. The easy way: add -chi to the dictionary form in -moq. English “want to go” is two verbs; Uzbek is one word. “I don't want to, I'm not going to”: after the form comes emas with a personal ending, as after a noun: ketmoqchi emasman. No -ma- here. A question takes the particle -mi, also as after a noun: in the second person before the personal ending (Ketmoqchimisiz?), in the third at the end (U ketmoqchimi?). With a question word there is no particle: Nima qilmoqchisiz? Keyinroq is keyin plus the familiar -roq: “later”. Balki, “maybe”, usually starts the sentence. Common mistakes: • NOT “Men ketmoqchi” → ketmoqchiman • NOT “ketamoqchiman” → ketmoqchiman • NOT “Men ketmoqchiman emas” → ketmoqchi emasman
“Want to, be going to”: the verb yozmoq (to write)

At this level you don't need to ask about yourself — those cells are empty.
