I can conjugate -er and -ir verbs and say what I eat and drink for breakfast.
-er and -ir verbs
Presente: the two remaining groups
The use is the same as in the last lesson: habits, routines, permanent facts. The time expressions are the same too: todos los días, los domingos, el fin de semana. Only the endings are new.
Two groups remain: infinitives in -er (comer) and in -ir (vivir).
The first group takes -o, -es, -e, -emos, -éis, -en. The second takes the same, except two forms: -imos and -ís. So -er and -ir differ only in nosotros and vosotros. All the forms are in the table below.
The verb leer has two e's in a row: leo, lees, lee, leemos, leéis, leen — that's normal.
Breakfast. Set phrases: café con leche (coffee with milk), tostada con mantequilla (toast with butter), zumo de naranja (orange juice). The main word comes first, then con (“with”) or de (“of”); in zumo de naranja this is the reverse of English “orange juice”. As in English, no article before food after the verb: Bebo café. Como pan.
Where you live — vivir en + city: Vivo en Granada (“I live in Granada”).
Common mistakes:
• NOT “Nosotros vivemos” — correct: vivimos.
• NOT “Vosotros comís” — correct: coméis.
• NOT “Mi hermano leen” — correct: lee.
• NOT “Yo bebe” — correct: bebo.
• NOT “naranja zumo” — correct: zumo de naranja.
Present tense: -er and -ir verbs
The groups differ only in nosotros and vosotros — these forms are highlighted.
| comer (-er) | beber (-er) | vivir (-ir) | escribir (-ir) | |
