Why: to say “my book, your dictionary, his guest” with words ending in п, к, қ.
Before an ending that starts with a vowel, the last consonant of the word becomes voiced:
• п → б: кітап → кітабым, кітабы;
• к → г: сөздік → сөздігің, есік → есігі;
• қ → ғ: қонақ → қонағыңыз, оқулық → оқулығы.
With no ending, or before a consonant, the word stays as it is: кітап, кітаптар.
Other consonants don't change: дос → досым, жігіт → жігіті, қарындаш → қарындашы.
Several things or people: first -лар, then “my, your, his”: достарым “my friends”, кітаптарыңыз “your books”. Here п, к, қ don't change: a consonant follows them.
In the word lists, words ending in п, к, қ now show the “his / her” form: кітап (кітабы).
