I can review the module: say where I live and work, what I do and don't do, what time it is, and on which days I'm busy.
What we review
What we review
What we review:
• “where?” is an ending after the word: қалада, мектепте; after the “his / her” ending — Абай көшесінде; “I'm at home” — үйдемін;
• the present tense — what I usually do, and tomorrow: жазамын, оқимын, ол жазады, ертең жазамын; the verb comes last;
• “I don't”: жазбаймын, сөйлемеймін, айтпаймын; a question: жазасыз ба? ол жаза ма?
• time: сағат үште, сегіз жарым, дүйсенбіде;
• work: your job — … болып жұмыс істеймін.
English has one “not”; Kazakh has three:
• емес — “isn't, not like that, not there”: Ол дәрігер емес;
• жоқ — “no, there isn't”: Көлігім жоқ;
• -ма / -ба / -па inside the verb — “I don't”: Мен жазбаймын.
Two ways to join words:
• whose? — two endings: Асхаттың кітабы;
• a two-word name — one ending, on the second word: қазақ тілі, Алматы қаласы.
The module is over: now you can say where you live and work, what you do every day and at what time — and you can say “I don't understand”.
Three “nots”
| What is negated | With what | Example |
|---|---|---|
| who someone is, what kind, where | емес (+ a personal ending) | Ол дәрігер емес |
| whether there is, whether someone has | жоқ | Көлігім жоқ |
| what I do | -ма / -ба / -па in the verb | Мен жазбаймын |
Whose? and a name
| What it is | How it's built | Example |
|---|---|---|
| whose? | two endings | Асхаттың кітабы |
| a name | one ending, on the second word | қазақ тілі, Алматы қаласы |
