I can talk about things, family, and work: whose something is, how many, there is or there isn't, our office and their boss.
What we review
What we review
In this module you learned to name the things around you and to talk about your family and your work. Here we review six topics with new sentences.
• This and that — bu, shu, u, oʻsha; more than one — -lar; after a number the noun stays singular: uch daftar.
• “My, your, his, her” is an ending on the word itself: soatim, soating, soatingiz, soati.
• Before an ending that starts with a vowel: k → g, q → gʻ; in oʻgʻil, singil, shahar a vowel drops out.
• “I have” is the word with its ending + bor; “there isn't” is yoʻq; pieces are counted with -ta.
• “Whose”: the owner takes -ning, the thing takes the “his, her” ending.
• “Our” is -miz or -imiz; “their” is ularning + the “his, her” ending or -lari.
Six owners: my, your (sen), his, our, your (siz), their
After ularning both forms are correct: idorasi and idoralari.
| Whose | After a vowel: idora | After a consonant: rahbar |
|---|---|---|
| mening | idoram | rahbarim |
| sening | idorang | rahbaring |
| uning | idorasi | rahbari |
| bizning | idoramiz | rahbarimiz |
| sizning | idorangiz | rahbaringiz |
| ularning | idorasi / idoralari | rahbari / rahbarlari |
Whose: the owner with -ning and the thing with the “his / her” ending
The owner comes first. A name takes no -ning, but the thing still has the ending.
| Owner | Item | Translation |
|---|---|---|
| Rustamning | kitobikitob + i | Rustam's book |
| Annaning | sumkasisumka + si | Anna's bag |
| doʻstimning | ismiism + i | my friend's name |
| kimning? | … | whose? |
| telefona name: no -ning | raqamiraqam + i | phone number |
| Toshkenta name: no -ning | shahrishahar → shahr + i | the city of Tashkent |
