I can talk about my plans for the weekend and vacation — budu odpočívat, pojedu na chatu, půjdu do kina — and explain why: protože…
Co budeš dělat? budu, půjdu, pojedu
Co budeš dělat? budu, půjdu, pojedu
For plans, use the future. Time expressions: zítra, v sobotu, příští týden, příští víkend, za týden (in a week). The future is budu + the infinitive: budu pracovat. English “will” goes with any verb; Czech budu doesn't (see below). The forms are in the table. The negative is one word: nebudu vařit. The short se still comes second: Večer se budu dívat na film.
The verbs jít (on foot) and jet (by vehicle) have a one-word future: půjdu, pojedu, půjdeš, pojedeš…
Verbs that mean doing something once — call, buy, arrive, leave, come back — already speak of the future, so they take no budu: zavolám, koupím, přijedu, odjedu, vrátím se. Learn their forms from the table.
Why? — Proč? The answer: protože… (because…) — Proč? — Protože je pozdě. How long? — Jak dlouho to trvá?
Common mistakes:
• דBudu jít do parku” → Půjdu do parku.
• דBudu zavolat” → Zavolám.
• דZítra budu pracuju” → after budu, the infinitive: budu pracovat.
The future
budu + infinitive; “I'll go” (on foot or by vehicle) is one word.
| Who | budu + infinitive | I'll go (on foot) | I'll go (by vehicle) |
|---|---|---|---|
| já | budu pracovat | půjdu | pojedu |
| ty | budeš | půjdeš | pojedeš |
| on, ona | bude | půjde | pojede |
| my | budeme | půjdeme | pojedeme |
| vy | budete | půjdete | pojedete |
| oni | budou | půjdou | pojedou |
These already mean “I'll do it”
These forms don't take budu.
| Form | In English |
|---|---|
| zavolám | I'll call |
| koupím | I'll buy |
| přijedu | I'll arrive |
| odjedu | I'll leave |
| vrátím se | I'll come back |
| přijdu | I'll come |
