Why: to describe a person or a thing — what they are like.
The question is қандай? “what kind?”. An adjective comes before the noun and never changes: үлкен үй — үлкен үйлер. There is no gender: әдемі қыз, әдемі қала.
When the adjective is the predicate, it comes last and takes the personal ending for “I, you, we”: Мен бақыттымын. Сіз сыпайысыз. There is no “am”: the ending does its job. About him or her — no ending: Ол ақылды.
өте — “very”: өте биік. бірақ — “but”: Пәтер кішкентай, бірақ жаңа.
“Too” is a separate word AFTER the person or thing it adds:
• да / де — after vowels and voiced consonants: Динара да, інім де;
• та / те — after voiceless consonants: дос та, жігіт те.
Color is түс: Түсі қандай? — Қызыл. Жаңа “new” and ескі “old” are for things; for people say жас “young” and қарт “elderly”.
Common mistakes:
• ×үлкендер үйлер → үлкен үйлер;
• ×Мен бақытты → Мен бақыттымын.
