I can talk about us — Біз студентпіз, біздің сыныбымыз — and speak to several people: Сендер студентсіңдер ме?
We, you, our, their: the plural persons
We, you, our, their: the plural persons
Why: to talk about “we” and to speak to several people at once.
We — біз. The last sound of the word picks the ending, and vowel harmony picks the vowel:
• -мыз / -міз — after vowels and р, л, й, у: оқушымыз, дәрігерміз;
• -быз / -біз — after з, ж, м, н, ң: қызбыз;
• -пыз / -піз — after voiceless consonants and б, в, г, д: доспыз, студентпіз.
“We aren't …” — емеспіз.
English “you” is the same for one person or many; for several people Kazakh adds -дар / -дер to the one-person form:
• сен студентсің → сендер студентсіңдер;
• сіз оқушысыз → сіздер оқушысыздар.
They — олар: no ending.
Our: біздің + the ending -ымыз / -іміз, after a vowel -мыз / -міз: үйіміз, кітабымыз, анамыз. Their: олардың + the “his / her” ending: олардың үйі. In speech the ending after біздің is sometimes dropped, but here we write it. “Your” for several people comes at the next level.
In the word әріп the vowel drops out before an ending: әрпі, әрпіміз.
Common mistakes:
• ×Біз студент → Біз студентпіз;
• ×біздің үйі → біздің үйіміз.
We: three rows of the ending
The hard or the soft form: the last syllable of the word decides.
