I can call a hospital, tell the doctor what hurts and since when, understand the doctor's instructions, and buy medicine at a pharmacy.
At the doctor's and at the pharmacy
At the doctor's and at the pharmacy
On the phone. You answer with Allo or Eshitaman, “I'm listening”. If you can't hear well: Yaxshi eshitmayapman; to ask someone to speak louder: Balandroq gapiring — or to say it again: the word qayta. Voice — ovoz.
At the doctor's. Nima boʻldi? — “What happened?” Qayeringiz ogʻriyapti? — “Where does it hurt?” Answer as in module 6: Boshim ogʻriyapti. Isitmam bor. Since when: Qachondan? — Kechadan beri, “since yesterday” (learn it as a whole).
Three pieces of advice with “you need to” are set phrases: Dam olish kerak, Dori ichish kerak, Koʻp suv ichish kerak. The doctor gives the rest of the advice as requests: see the table.
At the pharmacy. Where English says “take medicine”, Uzbek “drinks” it: dori ichmoq (dori olmoq is “to buy medicine”). When: ovqatdan oldin or ovqatdan keyin. Retsept is a doctor's prescription, not a recipe; sugʻurta is insurance.
Common mistakes:
• NOT “Men dori olaman” (for “I take medicine”) → Men dori ichaman
• NOT “Menda bosh ogʻriyapti” → Boshim ogʻriyapti
• NOT “Men isitma bor” → Isitmam bor
What the doctor says
