I can say where I was born, where I studied, and what I do now, ask the person I'm talking to about it with vy, and understand what the teacher asks for in class.
Můj život: where you were born and where you studied
Můj život: where you were born and where you studied
Why: to tell your life story (where you were born and studied, when you came to the Czech Republic) and ask others about theirs.
“I was born” is narodil jsem se / narodila jsem se, always with se. The two short words stand together in second position: first jsem, then se. If a place or time comes first, the verb follows them: V … jsem se narodila.
To one person with vy: Kde jste se narodil? to a man, Kde jste se narodila? to a woman. Likewise Kde jste studoval / studovala?: the l-form is singular, as in byl jste.
The year: v roce + the number. In figures when written (v roce 2015), in words when spoken (v roce dva tisíce patnáct).
Studies: studovat na univerzitě, chodit na kurz. The levels mateřská, základní, střední škola, univerzita, fakulta are for recognizing only.
učit: to teach; učit se: to learn, to study; naučit se: to learn (the result): chci / musím se naučit.
The teacher says: Poslouchejte. Opakujte. Pište. These are vy commands from poslouchat, opakovat, psát, for recognizing only.
Common mistakes:
• דNarodil jsem v Praze” → Narodil jsem se v Praze.
• דJsem se narodil v Olomouci” → Narodil jsem se v Olomouci: a short word never comes first.
• דNarodil se jsem” → first jsem, then se.
• דJá narodila se” → jsem can't be left out.
• דKde jste studovali?” to one woman → studovala.
My life: he and she
The ellipsis stands for a city, a country, or a year.
