I can say what I'm doing right now and ask the person I'm talking to: Hozir nima qilyapsiz? — Men dam olyapman. U kelyapti, kelmayapti, kelyaptimi?
What's happening right now: -yap
What's happening right now: -yap
Why: the present continuous says what is happening right now and “these days”. Time words: hozir — now, hali — still, bugun — today.
How: verb stem + -yap + personal ending: kel + yap + man = kelyapman — I'm coming (here) now. The -yap ending is the same for every verb (all the persons are in the table).
In the third person it is -yapti: U kelyapti. It is written -ti, not -di.
After a stem ending in a vowel, -yap goes straight on: oʻqi + yap = oʻqiyapman, ishla + yap = ishlayapman.
“Not doing it now”: -ma- before -yap: kelmayapman, kelmayapti.
Question: -mi at the very end, after the personal ending: Kelyapsizmi? U kelyaptimi? With a question word there is no particle: Nima qilyapsiz?
Remember: what happens usually, every day, is still ishlayman, as in English “I work”: Men har kuni ishlayman.
Recognition only: kulmoq — to laugh, yigʻlamoq — to cry, ayni paytda — at the moment, allaqachon — already, ijtimoiy tarmoq — social network.
Common mistakes:
• NOT “U kelyapdi” → U kelyapti.
• NOT “Men kelyap” → Men kelyapman: the personal ending is required.
• NOT “Men oʻqiyapman emas” → Men oʻqimayapman.
• NOT “Siz nima yozyapsizmi?” → Siz nima yozyapsiz?
Right now: the verb kelmoq
Stem + -yap + personal ending; in the third person, -yapti.
| Who | Yes | No | Question |
|---|---|---|---|
| men | kelyapman | kelmayapman | kelyapmanmi? |
| sen | kelyapsan | kelmayapsan | kelyapsanmi? |
| siz | kelyapsiz | kelmayapsiz | kelyapsizmi? |
| u | kelyapti | kelmayapti | kelyaptimi? |

| sizlar | kelyapsizlar | kelmayapsizlar | kelyapsizlarmi? |
| ular | kelyapti (kelyaptilar) | kelmayapti (kelmayaptilar) | kelyaptimi? (kelyaptilarmi?) |
