Kedy? Days of the week and times of day

Kedy? Days of the week and times of day

Why: to say and ask when (kedy?) you do something. A day of the week takes v where English has “on”: v pondelok, v utorok, v piatok. Before štvrtok it's vo: vo štvrtok (easier to say). Days ending in -a change -a to -u after v: streda → v stredu, sobota → v sobotu, nedeľa → v nedeľu. A time of day takes no preposition: ráno, doobeda, poobede, večer. With a preposition, as set phrases: na obed, v noci, cez víkend. dnes, zajtra, teraz take no preposition, like English today, tomorrow, now. A plan for tomorrow uses the present tense with a time word: Zajtra ráno nepíšem e-mail. Unlike English, days of the week are lowercase: pondelok. nedeľa is Sunday; a week is týždeň. skoro means “early” (skoro ráno) and “almost”. Common mistakes: • × v streda → v stredu • × v štvrtok → vo štvrtok • × v zajtra → zajtra
