I can buy food at the bazaar and the store: ask about ripeness and quality, ask for a discount, pay by card or in cash, and get my change and the receipt.
At the bazaar and the store: weight, price, paying
At the bazaar and the store: weight, price, paying
How much. A number + келі, грамм, or дана (piece), then the item, with no -лар and no “of”: екі келі алма, бес жүз грамм ірімшік, он дана жұмыртқа. Half a kilo is жарты келі, one and a half kilos is бір жарым келі. The price: “… қанша тұрады?” At the bazaar it is given per kilo: келісі (“its kilo”).
At the bazaar people bargain: “Жеңілдік бар ма?” — “Is there a discount?” Ripe is піскен, good quality is сапалы. The seller lets you taste: “Алыңыз, жеңіз!” — “Take some, eat!” In a store nobody bargains; the sign “Сатылым” means a sale.
To pay is төлеу. “By card” takes the same ending as автобуспен: картамен; in cash is қолма-қол. To ask whether you can pay by card, use the set phrase built like “Кіруге бола ма?”: “Картамен төлеуге бола ма?” — “Болады” or “Болмайды”. Change is қайтарым (you will also hear the Russian word сдача); a line is кезек: кезекте тұрмын.
Common mistakes:
• ×екі келі алмалар → екі келі алма
• ×картада төлеу → картамен төлеу
• ×Картамен төлеу бола ма? → Картамен төлеуге бола ма?
• ×Мен пакет керек → Маған пакет керек
