What we review

What we review

The module is done. Here it all is, in short. • Comparison: Die Küche ist kleiner als das Bad; Mein Zimmer ist so groß wie dein Zimmer; Am billigsten ist das Zimmer im Hotel. You remember the special forms from lesson 1: gut — besser — am besten, gern — lieber — am liebsten, viel — mehr, wenig — weniger. • Where to? — Akkusativ: stellen, legen, hängen, sich setzen (Ich stelle die Blume auf das Regal). Where? — Dativ: stehen, liegen, hängen, sitzen (Die Blume steht auf dem Regal). • als and wenn. English “when” is als for one time or one period in the PAST: Als wir in Hamburg gewohnt haben, … and wenn for every time, and for the present and future: Wenn es regnet, bleibe ich zu Hause. In both, the verb goes to the end of the clause. • zu + infinitive: Es ist wichtig, … zu …; in separable verbs zu goes inside (anzurufen), in inseparable ones it stands apart (zu bezahlen); no zu after modals. • Opinion and consequence: Ich finde, dass …; Ich bin dafür; Ich bin dagegen; Du hast Recht. After deshalb the verb comes right away, and the subject after it. • Advice: Du solltest …, the infinitive at the end. Now you can compare things, put them in their places, talk about one time in the past, give your opinion, and give advice.
