Days of the week: from … to

Days of the week: from … to

You need the days of the week to say when you work and to pick a day to meet. A day's name is a character + ようび: 月 (moon) — げつようび, 火 (fire) — かようび, 水 (water) — すいようび, 木 (tree) — もくようび, 金 (gold) — きんようび, 土 (earth) — どようび, 日 (sun) — にちようび. The vowel in ようび is long: say it short and the word won't be recognized. To ask: なんようびですか。 A day of the week takes the particle に, like English “on”: きんようびにきます。 But まいにち, まいあさ, and まいばん still take no particle. A span: the start + から (“from”), the end + まで (“until”). Unlike English, both come after the word. This works for hours and for days; see the models in the table. Arranging a day: a day or time that suits you takes が: …がいいです. One that doesn't takes は: …はだめです. It's the same は as in さかなはすきじゃないです: it goes where you mean “but this one, no”. • NOT すいよび → すいようび: the vowel is long.
Days of the week: character + ようび

The shared part is ようび, and its vowel is long. The characters are only for recognition.
