Lesson 4. Дәрігерде және дәріханада

I can make a doctor's appointment by phone, say what hurts and since when, understand the doctor's instructions, and buy medicine at the pharmacy.

1 / 16

At the doctor's and at the pharmacy

At the doctor's and at the pharmacy

Making an appointment. A clinic is емхана. On the phone you will be asked: “Сағат нешеде келе аласыз?” and “Аты-жөніңіз кім?” If it's really bad, call жедел жәрдем, the ambulance: its number is жүз үш (103). What hurts: as in module 6, Басым ауырады — the body part takes the “my” ending. A fever and a cough are said with “I have”: қызуым бар, жөтелім бар. “I caught a cold” is “Маған суық тиді” (literally “cold touched me”): only the “to whom” changes — Ерланға суық тиді. The doctor asks since when: “Қай күннен ауырады?” — “Дүйсенбіден” (since Monday). The doctor uses сіз. Commands and advice: “Отырыңыз”, “Аузыңызды ашыңыз”, “Көп су ішіңіз”. “Don't”: “Жұмысқа бармаңыз”. You need to rest: “Демалуыңыз керек”. In Kazakh you “drink” medicine: дәрі ішу — Мен дәрі ішемін. At the pharmacy. Medicine for an illness is “the illness's medicine”: тұмаудың дәрісі (flu medicine). About a рецепт (prescription) you ask: “Рецепт керек пе?” Common mistakes: • ×Мен суық тидім → Маған суық тиді • ×Менің бас ауырады → Басым ауырады • ×дәрі жеймін → дәрі ішемін
