Learn the numbers from zero to ten and the tens (see the tables) one by one. Build the rest yourself: the ten and the unit, as two words with no “and”: он екі — 12, отыз төрт — 34, тоқсан алты — 96.
To ask “how many?”: неше? — when you count one by one and for age; қанша? — for an amount in general.
Age: the number + жаста + the personal ending. Not “I'm thirty” but literally “I'm at age thirty”:
• Жасыңыз нешеде? — Мен отыз жастамын.
• Сен неше жастасың? Сіз неше жастасыз?
• Анна отыз жаста. The third person has no ending.
Phone: Телефон нөміріңіз қандай? “What's your phone number?” The answer gives the number digit by digit.
Watch out:
• жас — both “age” and “young”: жас адам;
• жүз — “hundred” (the word also means “face”).
Common mistakes:
• ×Мен отыз жылмын → Мен отыз жастамын;
• ×отызтөрт → отыз төрт.
