Урок 8. Quantifiers: how much exactly

Научиться точно выражать количество (plenty of, hardly any, none of, a bit of, very few/little, a couple of, most/all of, too much/many, not enough) и различать исчисляемые и неисчисляемые существительные.

1 / 13

Квантификаторы: сколько именно

Countable, uncountable и enough

Слова количества (quantifiers) выбираются в зависимости от того, исчисляемое существительное (books, friends) или неисчисляемое (money, time). С неисчисляемыми: much, a bit of, very little — "There is too much noise"; "I have a bit of time". С исчисляемыми: many, very few — "I have very few friends here". И с теми, и с другими: plenty of, most of, all of, none of, a couple of — "Plenty of people came"; "Most of the money is gone". Hardly any — почти нет, подходит для обоих типов: "There's hardly any time left". Enough после прилагательного, но перед существительным: "old enough" (достаточно взрослый), но "enough money" (достаточно денег) — порядок разный! Too + прилагательное — слишком: "too cold". Too much/too many — слишком много: too much noise, too many people. Not enough — недостаточно: "not enough time". Так неправильно: • NOT «enough old» — правильно old enough. • NOT «too much friends» — friends исчисляемое, правильно too many friends. • NOT «a few money» — money неисчисляемое, правильно a little money. Пара a few (немного, с исчисляемыми) и a little (немного, с неисчисляемыми) работает так же: a few friends, a little milk.
