• Who gets what: with ty, ahoj, maj sa, prepáč, poď ďalej; with vy, dobrý deň, majte sa, prepáčte, poďte ďalej. Prosím in reply to ďakujem, nech sa páči when you hand something over.
• byť is never left out: Som z Austrálie. The negative is nie som, two words.
• For a woman, the feminine word and last name: študentka, lektorka, pani Nováková, Anna Petrovová.
• Môj / moja / moje follow the gender of the thing; jeho, jej, ich don't change.
• Numbers: -násť, -dsať, -desiat, 21–99 as one word; age: Mám … rokov. má means “has”, ma means “me” (Teší ma): in writing only the mark tells them apart.
• I: -m, you (ty): -š, you (vy): -te; ne- joins the verb: nerozumiem.

What to say to whom: ty and vy
In some set phrases the vy version adds -te. Ahoj is only for ty.
