Hafta kunlari: days of the week and “how often”

Hafta kunlari: days of the week and “how often”

Days of the week are written with a small letter, unlike English. The question qachon? (“when?”) is answered with the day and the word kuni: dushanba kuni — “on Monday” (literally “on the day of Monday”). Ish kuni — a workday, dam olish kuni — a day off: these are names, no -ning. har — “every”, goes before the time word: har kuni, har hafta, har dushanba. hamma — “everyone, everything”: Hamma dam oladi — everyone rests. “How often” words go before the verb, never after it: doim, odatda, tez-tez, baʼzan — all the words are in the table. How many times: haftada ikki marta — twice a week. hech qachon — “never”. The verb with it is negative, unlike English “never”: Hech qachon ishlamayman. Common mistakes: • ×Hech qachon ishlayman → Hech qachon ishlamayman • ×Men ishlayman tez-tez → Men tez-tez ishlayman • ×har kunlar → har kuni
