Lesson 3. Որտե՞ղ ես ապրում — question words and where the linking verb goes
I can ask “where do you live?”, “what are you doing?”, “when?”, and “why?” and answer with the linking verb in its place: “Երևանում եմ ապրում”.

In a question with a question word, the linking verb comes right after it, and the -ում form after the linking verb. There is no word for “do”:
• Որտե՞ղ ես ապրում — where do you live?
• Ի՞նչ ես անում — what are you doing?
• Ե՞րբ ես զանգում — when are you calling?
• Ինչո՞ւ ես շտապում — why are you in a hurry?
• Ինչպե՞ս եք աշխատում — how do you work?
In an answer, the linking verb comes right after the answer word: Հայաստանում եմ աշխատում. Միասին ենք աշխատում. If nothing is in focus, it follows the -ում form: Ես աշխատում եմ Հայաստանում.
A yes/no question about the action: the usual word order, with ՞ over the last vowel of the -ում form. Աշխատո՞ւմ ես — do you work?
Where? Add -ում to the name of a city or country: Երևանում, Հայաստանում; after -ա and -ո, -յում: Մոսկվայում. “At home” is the set word տանը; before any form of the linking verb (եմ, ես, է, ենք, եք, են) it's տանն (Տանն եմ աշխատում).
Answer “why” with որովհետև — because: Չեմ աշխատում, որովհետև հիվանդ եմ.
You know շատ as “very”. Before a noun it means “a lot of”: շատ գործ — a lot of work.
Common mistakes:
• NOT “Որտե՞ղ ապրում ես” → Որտե՞ղ ես ապրում.
• NOT “Ի՞նչ անում ես” → Ի՞նչ ես անում.
In ե՞րբ you write բ but hear [pʰ].
The linking verb follows the main word
In a question the main word is the question word; in an answer, the answer word.

Where: the place name + -ում
After -ա and -ո it's -յում; after any other letter, just -ում. Name your own city the same way.
