What we review

What we review

In this module you learned how to meet people. This lesson reviews it all — there are no new words or rules here. What you can now do: • say hello, thank you, and goodbye — with sen and with siz; • ask Bu ne? Bu kim? and point: bu, şu, o; • say who you are: Ben öğrenciyim — with the personal ending; • ask and say no: Öğrenci misiniz? — Hayır, değilim; • say where you're from: Amerikalıyım, and which language you know; • count to a hundred, and say your age and phone number. Three forms of one sentence are in the table: “I'm tired”, “I'm not tired”, “Am I tired?”. Remember: he, she and they get no personal ending; the particle mı is a separate word; after a number the noun stays singular — üç kitap.
Personal endings

He, she and they get no personal ending. The last vowel of the word chooses the vowel of the ending.

ben (I)doktorum, öğretmenim, arkadaşımöğrenciyim
sen (you, informal)doktorsun, öğretmensinöğrencisin
o (he, she)doktor, öğretmenöğrenci
biz (we)doktoruz, öğretmenizöğrenciyiz
siz (you, formal or plural)doktorsunuz, öğretmensinizöğrencisiniz
onlar (they)doktor, öğretmenöğrenci
One word, three sentences

“Not” is the word değil after the word; a question is a particle after the word. The personal ending moves onto them.
