I can name the month and the date, and say when my birthday is and what today's date is:
Months and dates:
Months and dates:
The twelve months are in the table. They look like the English names, but Armenian writes them with a small letter. The p, t and k of September and October are the unpuffed պ, տ, կ (սեպտեմբեր, հոկտեմբեր), and the F of February is փ (փետրվար), not ֆ.
“In May” is the month + -ին: մայիսին, հունիսին. It's the same dative as in “at what time”: ժամը երեքին.
“On May 5” is the month with -ի and the day with -ին: մայիսի հինգին. The month comes first, then the day. Remember: մեկին, երկուսին, իննին, տասին, as with clock times. In figures: “մայիսի 5-ին”.
“What's the date today?” The answer is built like telling time: “When is your birthday?”
The word մարտ also means “battle”.
Common mistakes:
• NOT “հինգ մայիսին” → մայիսի հինգին (the month first).
• NOT “մայիս հինգին” → մայիսի հինգին (the month with -ի).
Twelve months
In Armenian, months are written with a small letter.

March |
April |
May |
June |
July |
August |
September |
October |
November |
December |
The day in a date
The day comes after the month name, which takes -ի. The other numbers work just like clock times.
| Number | “On what date?” | “Today is the …” |
|---|---|---|
