I can ask where the stop is and which bus I need, call a taxi by phone, give my address, ask the driver to stop, and say goodbye with “I'll call” and “see you”.
Around town and by taxi: asking, calling, stopping
Around town and by taxi: asking, calling, stopping
Asking the way: Ներեցեք, որտե՞ղ է … For a bus, ask with ո՞ր, “which”; the linking verb comes right after what you ask about, here the word for “bus”. The answer uses the familiar ուղիղ, ձախ, աջ.
A taxi by phone. The dispatcher answers Ալո, լսում եմ — “Hello, I'm listening.” Give the address and where you're going, with no ending, as after գնալ. You'll hear Սպասեք, խնդրում եմ. Զանգ — a call: the driver calls when the car arrives.
To ask for someone on the phone, put the “to whom?” ending -ին on the name, as after “call” and “write” (Արսեն → Արսենին), then կարելի է: Ալո, Արսենի՞ն կարելի է — “Hello, may I speak to Arsen?” The reply: Սպասեք, խնդրում եմ.
In the car: Այստեղ կանգնեք — “Stop here”, literally “stand here”. With a place: … մոտ կանգնեք — “stop near …”.
Two set phrases about the future, learned as a whole and never taken apart: կզանգեմ — “I'll call”, կտեսնվենք — “see you”. Other verbs don't change like this yet: for plans, use the familiar զանգելու եմ.
Saying goodbye, you'll hear հաջող, a spoken “bye”; say ցտեսություն or հաջողություն yourself.
Common mistakes:
• NOT “Կզանգեմ եմ” → Կզանգեմ (one word: no linking verb, and no word for “will”).
• NOT “Կայարանում, խնդրում եմ” (where you're going) → Կայարան, խնդրում եմ.
Taxi: who says what
Recognize the dispatcher's four lines; you say the fifth yourself.
