I can check that I know the whole module: the article by how the word begins, -are verbs, fare and stare, jobs with and without an article, negatives and questions.
What we review
What we review
The article depends on the beginning of the word: il, lo, l', la. The indefinite article: un, uno, una, and un'; the apostrophe is feminine only.
-are verbs: -o, -i, -a, -iamo, -ate, -ano, and the h in cerchi, paghi.
Place: a + city, in + country; no article: in ufficio, in banca, a casa, a scuola.
Fare: faccio, fai, fa, facciamo, fate, fanno. Stare: sto, stai, sta, stiamo, state, stanno. “Sono medico”, but “Faccio il medico”.
Non goes before the verb; a question needs only the rising voice, with no do; the question word comes first.
The definite article by how the word begins
The form depends on how the next word begins, not on its meaning.
| The word starts with | Article | Example |
|---|---|---|
| s + consonant | lo | lo studente |
| z | lo | lo zaino |
| gn, ps, y | lo | lo yogurt |
| vowel | l' | l'amico, l'amica |
| other masculine | il | il tavolo |
| other feminine | la | la sedia |
The present tense of -are verbs
In the loro form, the stress stays where it is in the io form: pàrlo → pàrlano, àbito → àbitano.
| Person | parlare | abitare |
|---|---|---|
| io | parlo | abito |
| tu | parli | abiti |
| lui, lei, Lei | parla | abita |
| noi | parliamo | abitiamo |
| voi | parlate | abitate |
| loro | parlano | abitano |
